Scripture Reflection: Jeremiah 20:9

This verse has been heavy on my heart today. Jeremiah 20:9 states, “But if I say, I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot”, (NIV).

God’s Word needs to be so heavy on our hearts that it BURNS within our soul. We need to be so focused and all-consumed with God’s Word that it is painful to us to withhold the truth. We cannot be afraid to speak the truth of Scripture to the world. This world does not even realize how truly desperate it is to hear the foundational truth that lies within the words of Scripture.

Prayer: God, may you convict our souls and instill a longing within our hearts to live in such a way that we are always receptive too and speaking the truth of your Word. May we always be listening for the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit in everything we do. May your Word burn so deeply within our souls that we are physically, mentally, and spiritually incapable of refraining from speaking the truth of it aloud. May your Holy Spirit fill our hearts with boldness to always speak the truth of your Word.

Concluding verse:

2 Timothy 1:7: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline”, (NIV).

Hello! My name is Leah Callen, I am 27 years old and I am a recent graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary. I am working to pursue a full-time career in hospital chaplaincy! I love to care for and encourage others in any way I can, and it is my hope that writing posts in this blog will be even a small way of doing that for whoever reads it. Living out our Christian faith is not easy, and I believe it is done best in community with other believers, seeking to help each other grow and to commit to being there for each other when life gets hard.
